The Wine

The 2020 Valbuena 5º from Vega Sicilia is a stunning new release that continues the legacy of Spain’s most iconic winery.

Crafted as the younger sibling of Unico, Valbuena 5º is aged for five years before release—including time in both oak and bottle—offering a richly textured, nuanced wine that balances modern precision with traditional soul.

The 2020 vintage shows excellent depth, structure, and refinement, embodying the poise and power that define the Vega Sicilia style.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Complex and layered, with vibrant aromas of ripe black cherry, red currant, and wild plum, alongside hints of cedar, baking spice, tobacco, and crushed stone.

Palate: Medium to full-bodied with polished tannins and a supple mouthfeel. Flavors of dark fruit, black tea, dried herbs, and cocoa powder evolve with air, framed by fresh acidity and elegant oak integration.

Finish: Long and harmonious, with a mineral-driven backbone and lingering notes of sweet spice, graphite, and toasted almond.
