The Wine
The 2008 Two Hands Ares Shiraz is the flagship wine of the estate and one of Australia’s most powerful and collectable Shiraz expressions. Crafted from the finest parcels across Barossa Valley, Ares represents the pinnacle of Two Hands’ winemaking philosophy—combining immense concentration with balance, precision, and age-worthy structure. The outstanding 2008 vintage produced a wine of remarkable depth and longevity.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Intense aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and black cherry, layered with notes of dark chocolate, liquorice, espresso, smoked meat, and exotic spice.
Palate: Full-bodied and richly textured, with a dense core of dark fruit framed by firm, muscular tannins. Flavours of mocha, clove, vanilla, and savoury spice unfold with power and control.
Finish: Exceptionally long and persistent, with lingering notes of dark fruit, spice, and fine oak.

Founded in 1999, Two Hands Wines is one of Australia’s most acclaimed producers of premium Shiraz. The Ares cuvée sits at the top of the estate’s portfolio and is produced only in exceptional vintages, sourced from low-yielding, old-vine Barossa vineyards. Two Hands is renowned for its meticulous vineyard selection and ability to craft powerful yet refined wines with serious ageing potential.

Vinification: Small-batch fermentation; aged approximately 18–20 months in French oak barrels (predominantly new)
Alcohol Content: ~14.5–15% ABV
Cellaring: Drinking well now with decanting, or cellar confidently through 2035+
