The Wine
The 2012 Terre di Galatrona is a magnificent expression of Tuscan Merlot from the revered Petrolo estate. Often compared to the great Pomerols of Bordeaux, Galatrona is celebrated for its depth, finesse, and balance. The warm 2012 vintage produced a wine of striking concentration and velvety texture, combining richness with precision. Presented here in the rare Jeroboam format (3L), this bottling offers exceptional longevity and collectability.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Intense aromas of ripe plum, blackberry, violet, and mocha, with hints of cedar, tobacco, and graphite.
Palate: Full-bodied, showcasing layers of dark fruit, chocolate, and espresso, supported by fine-grained tannins. The texture is plush yet focused, maintaining Petrolo’s hallmark elegance.
Finish: Long and polished, with lingering notes of spice, truffle, and sweet oak.
Producer Details
Founded in the 1940s, Petrolo is one of Tuscany’s most acclaimed estates, located in the Val d’Arno di Sopra region between Chianti and Montepulciano. Under the guidance of Luca Sanjust, the estate has earned global recognition for producing Galatrona, often described as “Tuscany’s answer to Pétrus.” The 2012 vintage is a particularly fine example — powerful yet beautifully balanced.
