The Wine

The 1983 Penfolds Grange Bin 95 is a celebrated vintage from Australia's most prestigious wine label. Born from a challenging year of drought and extreme heat followed by unseasonal rains, the 1983 Grange defied the odds to become one of the most distinctive and long-lived wines in the Grange lineage.


Tasting Notes

Nose: Rich and evolved bouquet of dried fig, leather, dark plum with notes of cedar.

Palate: Full-bodied and intense, offering layers of mature black fruits, roasted meat and dried dark fruits. The tannins have softened , allowing the tertiary flavours to shine.

Finish: Long and savoury, with lingering notes of smoked herbs, aged balsamic, and old oak, a testament to the wine’s remarkable aging ability.

Penfolds Grange is the benchmark of Australian fine wine—a national icon and a global legend. Created by Max Schubert in the 1950s, Grange set the standard for long-lived, barrel-aged Shiraz with Bordeaux-like complexity and power. The 1983 vintage remains an important historical bottling, showcasing the estate’s resilience and commitment to excellence.

Vinification: Fermented in open vats; matured for 18 months in American oak hogsheads (100% new)

Alcohol Content: ~13.5% ABV

Cellaring: Fully mature; best enjoyed now through 2030 with proper storage and decanting
