The Wine
Montée de Tonnerre is widely regarded as one of Chablis’ finest Premier Cru vineyards, often rivaling Grand Cru sites due to its prime location and classic Kimmeridgian limestone soils.
The 2016 vintage in Chablis was challenging due to frost and low yields, but the resulting wines are concentrated, precise, and highly expressive. Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin have crafted a wine of intensity and purity, combining ripe fruit with hallmark Chablis minerality and tension.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Aromas of lemon zest, green apple, and white peach layered with flint, oyster shell, and subtle floral notes.
Palate: Medium-bodied with vibrant acidity and a focused core of citrus and stone fruit. Pronounced mineral character and saline notes add depth and complexity.
Finish: Long, crisp, and precise, with lingering citrus, chalk, and mineral nuances.
