The Wine

The 2016 Flaccianello della Pieve is widely regarded as one of the greatest vintages ever produced by Fontodi. From organically farmed vineyards in Panzano’s famed Conca d’Oro (Golden Basin), this wine represents the pinnacle of pure Sangiovese expression in Tuscany. The 2016 vintage, blessed with ideal weather conditions, yielded wines of profound depth, balance, and longevity. Flaccianello 2016 is a benchmark Super Tuscan—structured, refined, and built to age gracefully for decades.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Intensely aromatic, with notes of black cherry, blackberry, violet, tobacco, and Mediterranean herbs, with hints of spice and graphite.

Palate: Full-bodied and powerful yet pure, showing layers of ripe dark fruit, cassis, and plum wrapped in fine, velvety tannins. Vibrant acidity and mineral undertones provide energy and definition.

Finish: Exceptionally long and complex, with lingering fruit, spice, and earthy savoury notes that promise further evolution in the cellar.
