The Wine

Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe is one of the benchmark producers of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with its celebrated vineyards on the La Crau plateau producing wines of remarkable depth, character and longevity. The estate's stony terroir, covered with the region's famous galets roulés, is particularly well suited to Grenache and gives the wines their distinctive combination of richness, warmth and mineral complexity.

The 2007 vintage produced beautifully ripe and concentrated Rhône wines, and Vieux Télégraphe's La Crau is a superb example. Now with considerable bottle age, the wine has developed beyond its youthful fruit into a more complex and savoury expression, while retaining the generosity and warmth that made the vintage so appealing. Rich, structured and wonderfully aromatic, it is an excellent choice for lovers of mature Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Expressive aromas of ripe blackberry, red plum and raspberry combine with dried herbs, garrigue, leather, liquorice, pepper and earthy spice.

Palate: Full-bodied and generous, with a silky texture and beautifully integrated tannins. Mature red and dark fruit is complemented by notes of thyme, rosemary, tobacco, leather and warm spice.

Finish: Long, savoury and persistent, with lingering garrigue, dark fruit, liquorice and subtle mineral character.
