The Wine
Château Rieussec is one of the great names of Sauternes, celebrated for producing richly textured sweet wines of exceptional depth, elegance, and longevity. Classified as a Premier Cru in the historic 1855 Classification, the estate has earned a reputation for crafting wines that rival the finest dessert wines in the world.
The superb 1989 vintage has matured into a wonderfully complex and expressive Sauternes. Decades of careful ageing have transformed its youthful richness into a tapestry of honeyed fruit, caramelised citrus, exotic spice, and toasted nuts, while vibrant acidity continues to provide remarkable freshness and balance. Now at a magnificent stage of maturity, it is a captivating example of perfectly aged Sauternes.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Intensely aromatic, with layers of apricot, candied orange peel, acacia honey, pineapple, marmalade, toasted almonds, saffron, vanilla, and delicate spice.
Palate: Rich and luxurious, yet beautifully poised. Flavours of dried apricot, baked peach, tropical fruit, crème brûlée, honey, and caramel are balanced by vibrant acidity and a distinctive mineral freshness.
Finish: Exceptionally long, silky, and complex, with lingering notes of citrus marmalade, honey, roasted nuts, and sweet spice.
