The Wine

Château Petit-Village 2016 is a beautifully composed Pomerol from a highly successful vintage, combining rich Merlot fruit with the structure and aromatic lift provided by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2016 vintage was particularly well suited to Pomerol, producing wines with excellent freshness, ripe tannins and impressive depth.

The wine offers a polished and expressive style, with layers of black cherry, plum and blackberry complemented by floral, mineral and spicy notes. The additional ageing potential of the vintage is particularly attractive in magnum format, where slower maturation can help preserve freshness and allow the wine to develop greater complexity over time.

Tasting Notes

Nose:
Expressive aromas of black cherry, ripe plum and blackberry, with violet, graphite, cedar and subtle spice.

Palate:
Rich and concentrated, yet beautifully balanced, with supple Merlot-driven fruit, fresh acidity and fine-grained tannins. Dark fruit is complemented by mineral and savoury nuances, giving the wine both depth and definition.

Finish:
Long and elegant, with lingering flavours of black cherry, plum, dark chocolate, spice and subtle earthy notes.

Producer Details

Château Petit-Village is a well-regarded Pomerol estate situated on the plateau of the appellation, with vineyards planted on the gravel and clay soils characteristic of the area. The estate produces wines that combine the richness and generosity of Merlot with the aromatic complexity and structure of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2016 vintage represents a particularly attractive combination of ripe fruit, freshness and polished tannins, making this magnum an excellent format for both long-term cellaring and mature Bordeaux drinking.

Wine Details

Vinification:
The grapes are vinified parcel by parcel, with fermentation in temperature-controlled vessels before maturation in French oak. The wine is then blended and further aged to allow the components to integrate.

Alcohol Content:
Approximately 14%

Cellaring:
Already approachable, but the magnum format gives this wine excellent ageing potential. It should develop beautifully through the 2030s and beyond.

Food Pairing Suggestions

Excellent with beef fillet, côte de bœuf, roast lamb, duck, venison and truffle dishes. Its rich Pomerol character also works particularly well with roasted mushrooms, foie gras and mature hard cheeses.
