The Wine
Château Lafon-Rochet is a historic Saint-Estèphe estate known for producing structured, classic Bordeaux with a strong Cabernet Sauvignon character. The estate’s gravel and clay soils provide the foundation for wines with depth, firm tannins and excellent cellaring potential.
The 2005 vintage is particularly impressive, benefiting from exceptional growing conditions across Bordeaux. Now well into maturity, the wine combines concentrated dark fruit with the savoury complexity that develops through extended bottle ageing. Cassis, blackberry and plum are complemented by cedar, tobacco, graphite, leather and earthy notes. The palate remains structured and fresh, but the tannins have softened considerably, making this a compelling mature Saint-Estèphe.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Aromas of cassis, blackberry, black plum and dried cherry mingle with cedar, cigar box, tobacco, graphite, leather and subtle earthy notes.
Palate: Full-bodied and structured, with mature dark fruit supported by refined tannins and lively acidity. Flavours of blackcurrant, plum, dark chocolate, tobacco, spice and graphite develop with impressive depth.
Finish: Long, savoury and persistent, with lingering cassis, cedar, tobacco, spice and mineral character.
