The Wine

The 1998 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is a classic Pauillac, combining structure, depth, and refinement. While 1998 was a Right Bank–dominated vintage, Pauillac estates like Grand-Puy-Lacoste produced wines of character and longevity, marked by ripe Cabernet Sauvignon and firm tannins. Now reaching maturity, this vintage shows the estate’s hallmark elegance and Pauillac typicity.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Mature with aromas of blackcurrant, cedar, leather, tobacco, and earthy truffle.

Palate: Medium to full-bodied, offering layers of cassis, blackberry, and plum alongside savoury notes of graphite, spice, and forest floor. The tannins have softened into a fine, silky texture.

Finish: Long and persistent, with lingering dark fruit, cedar, and savoury mineral complexity.

Producer Details

With a history dating back to the 16th century, Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is one of Pauillac’s most admired Fifth Growths. Owned by the Borie family since 1978, the estate has built a reputation for producing elegant, classically structured wines that rival higher-classed neighbours in quality and consistency.
