The Wine
The 2016 Château de Fonbel is a polished and expressive Saint-Émilion from the celebrated 2016 Bordeaux vintage. Owned by the Vauthier family of Château Ausone, Fonbel benefits from the same meticulous vineyard care and winemaking precision. The 2016 vintage delivers ripe fruit concentration, freshness, and refined structure, offering excellent value within the Saint-Émilion appellation.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Aromas of black cherry, plum, and cassis,. Notes of violet, graphite, sweet spice, and subtle toasted oak.
Palate: Medium to full-bodied, with a supple texture and vibrant core of dark fruit. Fine tannins support flavours of cocoa, liquorice, balanced by fresh acidity.
Finish: Smooth and persistent, with dark fruit and mineral undertones.

Château de Fonbel is managed by Alain Vauthier and the Vauthier family, owners of Château Ausone. The estate is known for producing approachable yet structured Saint-Émilion wines that reflect both terroir character and modern precision.
