The Wine

Château Batailley is one of Pauillac's historic classified growths, known for producing classically styled wines with impressive structure, purity and longevity. Its gravel-rich vineyards provide ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, giving the wines the characteristic cassis, graphite and cedar notes associated with great Pauillac.

The 2010 vintage was an exceptional year for Bordeaux, producing wines marked by concentration, freshness and firm, finely structured tannins. Batailley makes excellent use of these conditions, delivering a wine with impressive depth and definition while retaining the elegance that makes mature Pauillac so appealing.

Now with significant bottle age, the 2010 is beginning to develop greater complexity, with its ripe dark fruit complemented by tobacco, cedar and subtle earthy notes. It remains structured and youthful, offering plenty of potential for further ageing.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Aromas of cassis, blackberry and black cherry are layered with cedar, graphite, cigar box, violet and hints of tobacco and spice.

Palate: Full-bodied and beautifully structured, with concentrated dark fruit supported by fine, firm tannins. Notes of liquorice, cocoa, cedar and crushed stone add depth and complexity.

Finish: Long and persistent, with vibrant cassis, graphite, tobacco and classic Pauillac freshness.

Producer Details

Château Batailley takes its name from the historic Battle of Castillon in 1453 and is one of Pauillac's oldest estates. A Fifth Growth in the 1855 Classification, it has built a strong reputation for producing reliable, traditional Bordeaux with excellent ageing potential.

Wine Details

Vinification: Fermented in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats before ageing in French oak barrels for approximately 18 months.
Alcohol Content: ~13.5% ABV
Cellaring: Drinking beautifully now with decanting, but the structure and freshness should allow it to develop gracefully through 2050+.
